Short Assignment #1
My name is Victoria Nixon and I am researching the effects young consumers have on the fast fashion industry. My campaign is geared toward making the fast fashion industry more sustainable. My audience for the campaign would be my twitter followers. My fellow classmates are more than likely consumers in the fast fashion industry. My goal for this campaign is to change the minds of my followers and inform them about the negative effects the fast fashion industry entails. I am using Twitter as my mode because I feel like I will get the quickest and most reliable feedback on my topic. My first mode is Twitter and this will be successful because It is frequently used and easily accessible. Through tweeting, I will capture my audience’s attention by interacting with them and asking them about their individual efforts to improve sustainability. My second mode is a specific Wix Website and this will be successful because the readers will have an easy layout to look at. On this page, I will do my best to inform my audience about the negative effects the fast fashion industry has on the environment. My third mode is going to be on a Pinterest account because people can visualize ideas and solutions for endorsing sustainability in everyday life. Here, my audience will interact with me by showing me new solutions for creating clothing and how to make environmentally healthy decisions. I plan to compose my modes through visuals that my viewers can become emotionally connected to. I plan to use Microsoft and Photoshop to produce these images. These modes will require a large amount of time to compose because there are guidelines that need to be followed. I have my professor as a good resource to help me if I need assistance. The internet will also be my assistance during this project. These modes connect to my brand because they are creating sustainability within fast fashion. This campaign should be important to everyone who buys clothing and cares about our earth.
Short Assignment #2
In project three I will relate many of my research findings from project #2 in order to validate my campaign. My audience will include classmates, professionals in the fast fashion industry, and people who consume from these fast fashion stores. I will be able to locate these people by following them on Twitter and reaching out to them. The first source that will be useful was found in a journal called “Fast Fashion, Sustainability, and the Ethical Appeal of Luxury.” This source provides information about the behaviors of everyday young consumers in the fast fashion industry. I can portray information through the genres and create interactive questions for my followers. Questions will be raised about their everyday actions, such as how many times a week they shop. Providing my followers with information about the excess consumer consumption and how they have the power to consume less. Another important source found in my research was written to exploit the environmental problems that the fast fashion industry conducts. The journal is called “Picking up the threads: fast fashion led to the Rana Plaza tragedy” and relates a situation where a manufacturer created a large amount of pollution. The statistical facts in this resource can be displayed on a Wix page and may also be displayed through visual charts. Contributing this source to my campaign for cleaning up our environment and getting rid of fast fashion productions. A source called “Fast Fashion Is Creating an Environmental Crisis; Textile waste is piling up at catastrophic levels thanks to the fast fashion industry” will be an important contribution. The title says the main idea of the article. This will be a useful source for creating emotional appeals towards my audience. Explaining how the industry is killing the environment will make my audience curious about the campaign. Lastly, the article called “Fashion & Sustainability: Design for Change” is useful for its’ information on solutions that may be used in the future for creating sustainability. I will be able to present the ideas in this source to my followers and ask them for feedback. I will be able to ask my followers if certain ideas are realistic to their everyday behaviors.
Pinterest and Instagram:
Project #3 Process Report
Process:
My campaign Fast Fashion and Sustainability was formulated to raise awareness and inform viewers about the harmful impact that the fast fashion world has on the environment and society. The genres I represented were Pinterest, Instagram, and an infographic. The intended audience was classmates, professionals in the fashion industry, and consumers in the fast fashion industry. Social media plays a huge part in the fashion industry and through my genres, I was able to connect people interested in it. Anywhere from promoting, selling, and inspiring, social media is an appropriate platform for my intended audience. The audience is able to view and share the genres easily and efficiently. Pinterest and Instagram are popular social media that most people use, especially in the fashion industry. Even the infographic was accessible on my Pinterest and Instagram accounts. The individuals who are interested in viewing information about fast fashion and sustainability are attracted to social media because it is an online digital space where people can learn and relate to one another. Fashion is an art and people need to see it with their own eyes in order to make judgments. Through my genres, people are able to see why fast fashion is hurting the environment and the steps we can take to create sustainability. I used pathos in my Instagram account to capture viewer’s emotions. Using pictures that displayed pollution and the unethical treatment of foreign workers were targeted towards the viewers’ emotions. I used logos under each Instagram photo to write a caption explaining the meaning. Stating facts and connecting them to why fast fashion is dangerous was presented to viewers. Having logical statements reassures viewers that the genres stand for my campaign. The online FSU database was essential for finding peer-reviewed information. The database contained statistical information that was reliable and essential in capturing reader’s attention. Browsing other social media accounts about the same or similar topics was extremely valuable when I was creating each genre. Reposting and pinning from other accounts made me feel connected to other people.
Promotion:
I posted my genres on Twitter because most of my followers and classmates are on that social media platform. I used pins from my Pinterest and posted them on my Instagram account to relate the two genres. The infographic I created was posted on twitter and Instagram to bring attention to my campaign. Following accounts on my Instagram and Pinterest accounts was a way of promoting my campaign. I interacted with classmates on my twitter account to answer any questions and get feedback from them. The theme of my Instagram account was black and white to grab viewers’ attention. The black and white theme fashioned my account to be organized, interesting, and one-of-a-kind. My infographic was changed from colorful to black and white to match the theme of my Instagram. Crafting a theme entices my followers to view all of my genres. I utilized Pinterest, Instagram, Twitter, and Wix to promote my campaign. I posted my hashtag on all the social media outlets that I utilized. The most successful avenue was Twitter because I have the most followers and it’s easily accessible to everyone. I followed about 50 people on Instagram and Pinterest in an attempt for them to follow me back. I have promoted these genres since the beginning of November until now. When the audience did not respond, I followed accounts and liked posts to capture their attention. Specifically, on Instagram, I tagged accounts such as sustainable fashion lines, fast fashion lines, and influencers in order to get attention. Tagging accounts with a large following was a way to gain followers on my Instagram account. Pinterest was more difficult because people rather pin than follow your account. Every time someone would pin something of mine onto their accounts, I was notified. I followed all the people that pinned my posts hoping that they would follow me back.
Reflection:
The composition process in project 2 was more of researching the topic. I was able to find the facts about fast fashion and sustainability and really go into depth about my topic. Researching the topic helped me formulate my campaign. At first, I had little knowledge about fast fashion and sustainability. Social media was how I found out about my topic. Project 2 was essential for fully understanding my campaign and why it was important to me. The composition process of the genres was the digital form of my recent research in project 2. The genres are a reflection of my personal views on the topic that I researched. When composing the genres, I was able to exhibit my own thoughts and post them on the genres. The research paper was supposed to give readers factual evidence about the good and the bad of the fast fashion industry. Letting the readers decide whether fast fashion and sustainability was an issue is how I composed project 2. My three genres are obviously reflecting my campaign to raise awareness about the negative effects that the fast fashion industry has on the environment and society. Social media is a platform that helps spread awareness and relay imperative messages. The importance of my campaign and what it stands for was represented through my genres. In project 3, I had to focus on my audience’s interests and visually please them with photographs and pins. I did not have to consider this in project 2 because it was mainly written research. Also, I did not have to promote anything in project 2 and in project 3 I did. Getting people to follow me back on my genres was the most challenging part of project 3. It takes time to gain followers on social media and that is what I lacked. The most challenging part of project 2 was not letting my personal views get in the way of my research. Being nonbiased about a topic I feel so strongly about was difficult. Researching more evidence before beginning project 2 would have helped me with not repeating posts in project 3. Organizing my research would have been helpful for composing both projects as well.
